Dr. Greer is an adamant proponent of science, technology, engineering and math literacy.  She is particularly interested in working with young people to develop interest and excitement about science.  She has worked with the following organizations:

 

 

 

 

 

 

Girl Scouts

Dr. Greer is a life-long member of Girl Scouting International.  Girl Scouts is an inclusive organization that provides girls (and boys) opportunities to learn about civic involvement, the outdoors, personal interests, helping others and small businesses (just think about managing thousands of cookie orders!).  Girl Scouts was instrumental to supporting Dr. Greer as a young girl interested in perusing science and technology.  It seemed to Dr. Greer that middle school seemed to be the time when most of her female peers were deterred from excelling in science and math- now she encourages and advocates for girls of this age with interests in math and science.  She has helped design and run badge clinics for young girls and help introduce girls to math, science, engineering, and the outdoors (through camping and hiking) in the Boulder and Fort Collins areas.  One of coolest workshops she helped run was last held in April 2012, at the Table Mesa NCAR facility.  Over 40 girls, ages 7 through 13, learned about the scientific method, a historical female scientist (an professional actress portrayed Marie Cuire),

Earth’s weather & climate, water quality, space weather, and the super computers we use to investigate our Earth, atmosphere and sun.

Science Olympiad

Science Olympiad is a program for junior high and high school students to compete in various science, technology and engineering events.  This is a program that Dr. Greer was involved in as a high school student and loved the way she was allowed to pursue my own interests, was challenged by new material and rewarded for excelling.  She now mentor students in engineering events and judge events at the regional and state levels.  For competitions she has written exams for astronomy, remote sensing, botany, meteorology, and water quality.  She has also mentored students in designing robots and building engineering structures such as towers and bridges.  She has worked with all kind of students from different parts of the state of Colorado, from different socio-economic backgrounds and even home-schooled students.
